Description: I recently wrote an article covering the installation of a very powerful Enterprise-ready process automation system called Interleave. This tool is exceptional for tracking and accountability. It's features go beyond the scope of many small company needs (but shouldn't keep smaller ventures from deploying it) so it can cover just about any company. Getting the system up and running was no cake walk but it's do-able for just about anyone. Using the system can, at first, seem very daunting (due to the incredible amount of features), but it needn't be so. It's just a matter of making Interleave fit your needs. With that in mind, let's get to work.
Description: For some time, Microsoft has focused on large enterprises and small business, as evidenced by products such as Small Business Server. The midmarket (500 PCs, a couple dozen servers) has very similar needs as smaller and larger enterprises, but faces unique challenges. Whereas Microsoft provides some specific products for smaller organizationsincluding the aforementioned Small Business Servermidmarket organizations have had to utilize full-fledged enterprise tools often without the benefit of large IT staffs or significant server infrastructures to do so. Enter the "Essentials" line, which is targeted at midmarket IT organizations. I'm not sure if all of Microsoft's mid-market focused endeavors will use the word "Essentials" but so far, this has been the case. For the monitoring, system management, and software deployment side of the house, Microsoft has released System Center Essentials 2007. In this article, I'll explain the purpose and features of this product, outline its system requirements and limitations and walk through a sample installation.

Description: PacketFence is the next big thing with network security and open source. Jack Wallen shows you how to run this installation completely by command line.
Description: PacketFence does, via open source, what many applications costing hundreds to thousands of dollars do. Jack Wallen explains what makes this system a fully viable solution for a variety of situations.

Description: Cisco has been made aware of a limited number of Supervisor-2 modules (DS-X9530-SF2-K9), manufactured between September 2007 and February 2008, that may randomly experience a Device-4 error caused by an Error Correcting Code Memory (ECC) error. Description: A majority of the MOSFETs provided by a specific supplier have been discovered to be marginal in design. These MOSFETs are part of the 2.5V power supply. The power supply is a push/pull design, where two devices are designed to alternate on and off, such that both are not driving at the same time. The problem MOSFETs have a very high turn off delay, resulting in simultaneous driving. When this occurs, one part can heat up, causing it to fail over time.
Description: This software issue may affect customers using MGCP and CAS signaling feature on MGX VXSM board. Service Providers use CAS signaling feature for various call services. In rare circumstances, the software goes into a "race condition" between call process messaging and call is not getting cleared properly. The suspect circuit may appear in a hung state on the VXSM card. Once in a hung state, no future calls will succeed on the suspect circuit. This is a software issue - please do not RMA the VXSM board as the board is working properly.
Description: OC768 cards operating on the CRS-1 chassis may encounter intermittent burst BER events several months after installation due to dendrite growth. A dendrite is a crystal with a tree-like branching structure that is formed when a metal, or an alloy of multiple metals, in liquid form freezes. Packaging contamination can allow molding compounds to absorb moisture through the package body and between the lead frame molding compound interface causing dendrite formation. Combined with moisture, this results in a lowering of resistance between tracks and pads and can lead to metal corrosion.
Description: This issue affects specific subset of the PCMCIA ATA Disks and Compact Flash disks that were installed in specific Cisco routers manufactured between May 2005 and October 2006. Cards shipped individually as spares over that same time span may also contain one of the affected units. This issue has been linked to a component manufacturing problem. The root cause was identified and appropriate steps taken to resolve the problem. Product impact varies due to different flash memory access methodologies and use patterns. Some products may be able to mitigate the potential effect by re-writing affected memory areas at specific intervals. This feature does not work with all products, so please check the workaround section for availability and specific instructions.
Description: Cisco IP Phone front labels will peel off after a certain period of time.
Description: The router has a watchdog system on board which generates interrupts every four milliseconds. The software responds to the interrupts and resets the watchdog. If the software fails to respond and resets the watchdog within 32 milliseconds, the watchdog will first issue a Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) to the CPU. If the CPU fails to respond to the NMI a further 42 milliseconds, the watchdog will then issue a "L2 watchdog timeout" and cold reset the router. Under certain rare conditions, specific code sequences can prevent the CPU from executing additional instructions. New versions of software are available which eliminate these failures without affecting system performance or functionality. June 23, 2005: Two DDTS caveats have been added to the DDTS list.
Description: The MDS 9000, Nexus 5000, Nexus 7000 and UCS 6100 families of products will be switching to a new block of Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI). As a result of this change, customers may experience problems with Cisco Fabric Manager (FM). This Field Notice applies to units manufactured after February 09, 2010. The new OUIs will be 00-05-9b and 00-05-73. The first 3 bytes of the MAC address are the OUI. For information on determining whether a unit is affected, please see the Problem Symptom section.
Description: The purpose of the filter assembly was to meet Telcordia (GR-1089) EMI requirements. The Telcordia specifications were later changed in 2006, making the capacitor unnecessary. The capacitors were removed from the design with the version -05 shelves which started shipping in October 2006, so the currently shipping shelves are not at risk. Up to 2% of shelves with incorrect capacitors may experience a capacitor failure during the normal life of the shelf. Customers with version -03 and -04 shelves may contact Cisco for a replacement as instructed below. As an alternative to complete shelf replacement, Cisco developed an in-service inspection program to aid in identifying incorrectly built power filter assemblies. Version -03 and -04 shelves may be inspected in the field to determine whether an incorrect capacitor is installed. The inspection is not traffic impacting, but it is strongly recommended that it be conducted during a maintenance window. After shelves in the field are inspected, they are labeled by the inspectors with a sticker, if the capacitor is correct. Please note: As the inspection process is manual and relies on a subjective color assessment to determine capacitor type, it is subject to error. Since the initial offering of the inspection program, there have been a small number of known manual inspection escapes, where incorrectly built power filter assemblies were misidentified as correctly built power filter assemblies, and subsequently failed. Analysis is underway on these errors to see if any further corrective action may be warranted. Given the possibility of escapes in the inspection process, Cisco extends the offer to replacement of any shelf covered by the inspection process at the customer's request. Customers who wish to schedule an inspection may contact Cisco as instructed below.
Description: During high call volume in production, CTIOS may restart or assert with a minidump, failure to accept new client connections due to previous exceptions that may cause agent login failure, button enablement issues related agent state or call control. Description: Various failures have been reported on one (1) specific TAN and PCA version (73-2194-04, 800-02060-04) of the PA-8B-S/T port adaptor. These failures can range from ISDN line protocol failures to a system crash. It has been determined that the field programmable gate array (FPGA) firmware resident on the affected PA-8B-S/T port adaptors has a defect resulting in an invalid PCI cycle. This issue will require replacement of the affected port adaptor for a replacement unit with updated FPGA firmware. PA-8B-S/T FPGA code is not field upgradeable.
Description: In the two known instances of mis-wiring, a reversal of the "live" and "ground" conductors in the appliance plug of the power cord set was found. If a mis-wired power cord set is connected to the power source, the chassis can become "live". Any contact with the chassis after it is connected to the power source could result in an electric shock.
